Sand piper

This was hurriedly taken from the balcony of the flat we had in Melkbosstrand. Rushed out after hearing the sound of bagpipes to see this lone musician practising amongst the dunes.

oh, what I wish I could be here, to listen to the melody coming out of his instrument

@yoshimiparis: Thanks Yoshimi - I can vouch for the fact that the sound was indeed wonderful. There was a tiny bit of wind at the time and the music just seemed to drift along with it!

Probably the best place for it. We had a teacher at school who used to practice playing in the lunch hour. He would carefully space out a row of desks and then pace backwards and forwards on top of them using the desks to get his stride right. Thanks for the reminder :)

@grouser: Would love to have seen that! :) To say nothing about videoing it!

Hiro from Mukoh Kyoto-pref., Japan

I wonder why the musician is there. Somewhat curious scene.

Ha! Great title. Some would say bagpipes sound best when they are miles away. I, for one, like bagpipe music.

@beach: Thanks Beach! I enjoy bagpipe music too - stirring stuff! My one sister-in-law's Dad was a master and used to pipe in the Christmas pudding every Christmas Eve! Absolutely brilliant! Doesn't quite taste the same now that he's passed on.

much too long ago for video. A wind up camera and super eight perhaps.....but even that might be pushing it :)

Just the right title for this excellent look at the piper. Very different set of pipes from the Irish pipe's. I have marched behind some of the best pipe bands in the world. A great experience. 5*

HAH! what a great title for this quick photo. It really made me smile and I bet it was kinda fun hearing the solo serenade of bagpipes walking.
