The hole in the wall

Posted by

When one gets to this tunnel on Kogmans Kloof, there are only about 4 kilometres to go before one reaches the beautiful town of Montagu. This particular route was created when Thomas Bain built the pass and blasted a hole (in 1899) through the rockface. The Old English Fort is still on top of the tunnel (not visible from this angle, though), and can still be visited (if the constant presence of baboon troops is not a deterrent - we preferred to give it a miss!).
