Hermanus break ii - Closed!

Posted by
dobbino (Cape Town, South Africa) on 2 June 2009 in Business & Industry.

Couldn't resist this for the Silly Tuesday post (see Liner's blog) for the other submissions today. This shot was taken at about four o'clock on the day we arrived, during a walk around the town. Ok - write-up on the photo:

Closed??? Of course it’s bloody-well closed!!! This is a competitive, difficult, and cut-throat business, you know! Not many survive!

And an extract from the Ballad of Sweeney Todd:

Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd.
His skin was pale and his eye was odd.
He shaved the faces of gentlemen
Who never thereafter were heard of again.
He trod a path that few have trod
Did Sweeney Todd
The demon barber of Fleet Street.
He kept a shop in London town.
Of fancy clients and good renown
And what if none of their souls were saved
They went to their maker impeccably shaved.
By Sweeney,
By Sweeney Todd
The demon barber of Fleet Street.

BTW - the following lunchtime we went to a restaurant that served a variety of home-made pies. We both chose chicken.

Also - for those who might not know the story, there is a short summary here.

LOL, I wouldn't have thought that, Sweeny Todd as a name for a barber shop would instill confidence in there clients. A place for the brave and reckless, me thinks. :D A great ST shot.

Not the place to go for a shave, might be a bit too close. Was the pie shop across the road open?

2 Jun 2009 10:05am

@grouser: Ooooh! Too close indeed! And yes, but as I said above, we chose the chicken ones!

Nicholas from Shah Alam, Malaysia

Great catch! As for the picture itself - I especially like the shopping cart reflection. Maybe transportastion for his last customer?

2 Jun 2009 5:12pm

@willow: Yeah - maybe - thought that too! And by the look of the blinds it looks like the last customer might have put up a bit of a fight :)

grouser from Ludlow, United Kingdom

What makes you so sure it was chicken?

2 Jun 2009 5:14pm

@grouser: The chicken meat is quite a bit drier than the other kind, Grouser - thought you would know that :)
