Sutherland trip x - Communion

Posted by dobbino (Cape Town, South Africa) on 31 July 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

This is one of my favourite (if not, the favourite) of all the photos taken on our recent trip.

I struggled for a long time to find a suitable title to express what I feel about it, and then finally settled on "Communion". For me this portrays a magical partnership between man and nature. Looking out, all one can see is the Karoo bush, stretching for miles and miles, and then the various hills and mountains in the distance. In the foreground is a device designed to capture and convert energy from the sun. And from where this shot was taken, if one turns around, one sees the observatories posted earlier this week.

For me the magic is that we have come to this remote and beautiful location, and have created structures and facilities designed to enhance our knowledge of some of the gifts we have been offered to embrace and enjoy. And we have then done it with minimal damage to the surrounding environment.

I hope you enjoy the photo as much as I do - and hopefully your weekend will be as serene and peaceful as the feeling that I get from this image. See you all on Monday - take care.

All comments, and especially constructive criticism is truly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time.
