Sutherland trip iv - Winter landscapePosted by dobbino (Cape Town, South Africa) on 23 July 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. This shot probably has value mainly for my South African friends - most of you in overseas countries would probably look at the snow and think "Big Deal"! But in SA it's such a rare occurrence for us, and to see and experience the snow is just one of the reasons we took the trip. Jacqui (I won't mention her age as I need to eat tonight!), who is just a few years younger than me, has never properly experienced snow, and for the first time in her life was able to bend down and feel the stuff! BTW, when we left three days later, the snow had long since melted, and won't be back till probably next year. And then also for just a few days in the year - our timing couldn't have been more perfect! So when we came over the hill and were greeted with this scene, it was magical! We normally associate the Karoo area with hot and dry conditions - and to see the vegetation we normally would associate with the area, partly covered with snow, is something both of us won't forget for a long time. All comments, and especially constructive criticism is truly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time.
