Sutherland trip iii - The main road to the town

Posted by dobbino (Cape Town, South Africa) on 22 July 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

The South Africans who view this will instantly recognise the vegetation (it's very typical) and vastness of our Karoo area - a semi-desert region of South Africa spanning an area of more than 400,000 kilometres. It's bleak, monotonous for some, but magnificently beautiful in it's own way. And if you stop the car and get out, you will experience a feeling of calm and quiet and peacefulness that is absolutely unique.

This is a small portion of the main highway going north towards Sutherland. If it looks to you like you are in the middle of nowhere, you have got it spot on! This particular road is not straight all the way, not by any manner of means, though there are other areas in the Karoo where straight roads like this that go on for miles and miles are the order of the day (shortest distance between two points, after all).

All comments, and especially constructive criticism is truly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time.
