I am alone

This gentleman lives in the same complex where we have our flat. Virtually every day, he takes his fold-up chair and goes for a walk on the beach, finds a spot to place the chair, and then enjoys a few moments alone, taking in the beauty of the sea and the surrounding scenery. He's getting on in years now and is more than a touch frail, but it's wonderful to see someone that age still enjoying the simple pleasures and natural beauty that surrounds us on a daily basis. Someone who does not take the wonderful gifts we are given for granted. It's a lesson for us all.

In the near distance you can see part of the town of Melkbosstrand (Milk bush beach), and then, of course, Cape Town and Table Mountain.

BTW - this was taken on Sunday morning, a few days after some really heavy rains and bad weather that have flooded some of our roads and devastated some of our surrounding informal settlements. It's difficult to believe when you look at this photo - it seems so calm and peaceful out there. And it was on the day - but that's Cape Town!

Title taken from the lyrics of the song "I am a rock" by Simon and Garfunkel
