Don't they ever sleep?

At one of our recent visits to our flat, we saw this group of birds on the beach. I must confess I thought birds slept at night, so was quite excited to see them gathered like this! Anyway, our flat management team had recently installed some security lights to cover the beach in front of the complex, and while this does affect our view of the night time skies, it offers other opportunities such as this one.

I took my camera, zoom lens, and tripod down to the beach and this was the best of the photos I took that evening. I was quite surprised that I had to use the manual focus mode, as the auto focus just would just not click in. And with my night time eyesight, I can assure you that was not the easiest of tasks!

BTW - this is the natural colour as it came out of the camera - the security lights that were installed have a yellowish tinge to them, and produce an almost natural sepia tone to the view.

All comments, and especially constructive criticism is truly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time.
