Vineyard Hotel v - Paving stone

I don't know how many folk will see this image, as the thumbnail looks awful! Anyway, I must confess I didn't notice this paving stone while we were walking on the path (talking too much!), and I had to have it pointed out to me by my friend. This is a natural pattern on a slate (?) paving stone, yet it looks like it could have been a rock painting! Simply amazing.

Are you sure it's not fossilised plants Rob. I have seen this kind of pattern in split rock and assumed that is what it is. It has come out very nicely. Sort of stone wallpaper.

@grouser: Hi Grouser - I really have no idea, but your suggestion certainly seems feasible. There were only two of these (that I saw, anyway) out of the many hundreds of pavers in the gardens.

this is gorgeous -- i have seen stuff like this in Jordan too -- some sort of bacteria / algae that eats into stone or something... wonderful golden hues -- and the thumbnail looked very appealing!! i thought it was some sort of ornamental cloth!! :) excellent!!!
