Pink - it was love at first sight

Posted by dobbino (Cape Town, South Africa) on 4 March 2009 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

This is a photo of the flower from the last shrub our landscaper planted for us, just to fill in a space up the side of our home. The shrub itself is a bit scraggly (probably needs some 2:3:2 - will do that tomorrow - have made a note!), but the flowers are just exquisite. A cluster of these really tiny and intricate blooms make up the display at the end of each branch.
My thanks to Jason (via the forum) for suggesting using black velvet as a background, and to Jacqui, who did not have velvet in her bag of tricks, but instead had a piece of very suitable rich black cotton cloth. The use of cloth rather than cardboard as a backdrop is much more practical. Unfortunately I had to pick a sprig of the flowers, bring it indoors and put it in a clamp, as it was very windy outside. Lighting was from the lamp above my desk, and the macro lens, tripod, and small aperture to get reasonable depth of field, did the rest. I am really happy with the end result.
