When I'm feeling blue

Posted by
dobbino (Cape Town, South Africa) on 25 November 2008 in Animal & Insect.

One of the many varieties of lizards that frequent the Stony Point Nature Reserve. This image is for Sharon.
Title from the words of the song "A groovy kind of love", my favourite version performed by Phil Collins

Marvelous blue color ! great shot !

grouser from Ludlow, United Kingdom

Excellent and the quartz(?) rock complements him.
Did you tweak the blue?

25 Nov 2008 10:44am

@grouser: Hi Grouser - the photo was a little overexposed due to the glary weather conditions and the bright rock and background, so I used the "auto" button in RAW mode to bring it back to what it was like in real life. The result is what this particular fellow looked like.

zOOm from Paris, France

I just adore your compo, that's simple and very arty ! Lovely tones of the background due to DOF I guess with this blueish reptile... taht's just great, and graphic somehow. Well done !

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

Outstanding Rob, truly impactful, and look at those varying shades of blue...so dynamic! I always love the songs you choose :)

25 Nov 2008 2:49pm

@Lorraine: Thanks Lorraine - sometimes the song just pops, sometimes it takes a little longer, but I really enjoy combining my love of photography with my love of music. I'm really pleased you enjoy it, though - helps make the effort more worthwhile :)

pedro from loures, Portugal

love the framing, i have some reserves on the dof, i would prefer to see the hand in focus, the tones a superb.

Andrew Gould from Sydney, Australia

A very striking portrait of this creature. Wonderful blue that stands out against that non distracting background. I do, though, tend to agree with Pedro about the DOF. It drops off so sharply that it almost looks artificial. Still a great image.

25 Nov 2008 9:56pm

@Andrew Gould: Yeah - I have to agree with you and Pedro. It struck me as soon as I saw the final image, but as always, then it was too late. I was just so excited at finally catching one of these with the extra colour that I just snapped away. Lens was my 300mm zoom and aperture wide open at f/5.6. Maybe next time...

Ana Lúcia from Leiria, Portugal
