Building daydreams?

I love seeing things being built. This is a photo of the new Green Point Soccer Stadium, being built for the 2010 World Cup, which starts in 609 days. The cable car on top of Table Mountain can be seen in the distance, slightly obscured by some cloud coming in.
There are the sceptics who say that the projected benefits coming from hosting the World Cup are just daydreams, but I believe we will make this opportunity work for us.

We usually see stadiums built on the outskirts of a city, but this seems to be countryside, such a shame. And what about those people living right there..... talk about on your doorstep !

@Observing: Hi Mike - there was a huge amount of debate around this particular issue. In the end, FIFA called the shots about location. It's not as bad as it looks, though I personally think (as do a lot of Capetonians) there were much better venue options. This stadium is being built very close to where the old and outdated stadium was located. The old stadium is in the process of being demolished, so while the new one is bigger, it basically replaces the space the old one took up.

Great shot We are going through the same thing in NZ with new stands being built at stadiums for the 2011 world rugby cup. Love the view of Table mountain which imposes itself over capetown so impressively
