August 2008 Day Trip ix - Final

This submission shows two photos that just lost out on my original posts. There is the same zebra as shown earlier in the series (and DJ - he actually does have a tail, it's just hidden!) - this photo taken immediately after the microlite had flown over the group and disturbed the peace. I really like this image - I think he looks regal and strong, but I felt that my first posting better depicted the day's mood. The other part of the image shows the full goat tower - I estimate it to be about 7 metres high, and I really like the shadowed patterns from the steps. I don't know what it is in their genes that would want to make the goats climb up and down this thing, but I suppose if you've got nothing better to do.....! The goat on the ground suffers from vertigo.

howdy rob! great to be back! :) a lovely montage here! (loved your note to me above) had you not assured me, i would have started to think that all the tails of zebras had been pulled off or something! ;) beautiful light and clarity in these photos! i will check back the last week to see the rest of this excellent series!

Great images Rob, I've never seen anything like the goat tower before, but they seem to like it, especially the big guy in the penthouse !

@Observing: They are up and down the thing on a regular basis. There's a short article on the towers on wikipedia.

That is a great pair of images. The shadows on the odd tower echo the zebra stripes.

I especially love this goat tower, I've never seen anything like that before. Do you know if it was constructed specificaly for them? I also love your detail descriptions of you photos. I like to read and learn about things in addition to looking at the beautiful photos.

Now, you also asked for suggestions to improve you images..., well I'm not sure if I'm qualified, but what the heck, I'll take a stab at it...

Zebra photo; I would crop out everything above its head ( the distant bluish horizon ), to keep the viewer's focus solely on the zebra.

@Roman: Thank you for taking the trouble to comment - and you are 100% correct. I spent some time cropping the images to get them the same size, and in the end that turned out not to be that important - so I could have done what you suggested. Appreciated.
Regarding the goat tower - yes - it's something specially designed for goats. There aren't that many of them around the world, but there's a photo of an even bigger one here

LOL ! the goat does look like she is feeling dizzo , suffering from vertigo ! How funny ! the tower is really nice as you say with the stairs pattern ... and there is one goat in every door ... they seem to really enjoy it ! As for the zebra he looks very healthy .

@Namaki: Thanks for the visit and comments Namaki - much appreciated! In fact all the animals were in excellent shape - the goats are truly well looked after by the owners.

The zebra is fatastic, and I really like how you've captured his regal stance in the flowers.

The goat tower is an awesome pic, and including the whole tower with the mountains in the background is just great.

On the downside I think the compilation detracts from each photo, as both are great in their own right, but overshadowed by each other. I would have preferred to see these as two different posts.

@Graham Russon: Hi Graham - thanks for the comments, and I appreciate what you are saying. I had a bit of an issue with these - both images were for me the second choices of parts of the trip I wanted to post. But I really liked them both and wanted to share them, but to post each separately would have detracted from the first choices (for me, anyway). So the compromise - post them together.
