This is a close up of a four-month old bud from one of our beautiful species of Protea. I planted this particular plant in a pot, and I'm very happy to say that it is doing extremely well. The flowers should open fully sometime later next month - I can't wait! There are many varieties of Protea, the major one being the Giant or King Protea, which in fact is South Africa's national flower.
